Grades 4-6


This class is instructed using Voices Reading, a comprehensive literacy and character development program. This program uses multicultural books that integrates character development into a comprehensive literacy program. The multicultural books provide a variety of genres, including poetry, informational texts, short stories, novels and more. Character development vocabulary words is provided for each book.  Use of the words in conversations help students deepen their understanding of the words and integrate them into their oral vocabulary. Students are motivated to respond and express their points of view through writing.

This class also provides community outreach educational programs for grades 4-6.  The South Suburban Family Shelter offers school based violence prevention programs. Family Violence Prevention is presented to our 4th and 5th grade students.  Family and Teen Dating Violence Prevention is presented to our 6th grade students.  
                                                  

The YWCA South Suburban Center offers educational programs that educates our student on Internet Safety and Violence Awareness and Prevention. The Internet Safety workshop empowers students to be safer online.  The Violence Awareness and Prevention workshops educate our students on issues regarding child sexual abuse and teen rape and dating violence.
                                     

All school based workshops are age appropriate classroom presentations that are designed to encourage ours students to feel confident and safe.
